★General Rules
★ This home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. While we absolutely encourage celebrations, relaxation, and making wonderful memories, this property is not suitable for parties or large gatherings of any kind.
Out of respect for our neighbors, quiet hours begin at 10 PM and are strictly enforced. Excessive noise, events, or disturbances will not be tolerated and may result in immediate cancellation of the reservation without refund.
We appreciate guests who value a peaceful environment and treat the home and neighborhood with care.
★A Note About the Interior Doors
The stairwell door leading to the ground level and the sliding glass door that opens to the top level elevator lock from the inside and do not have keys.
When you head out for the day, it’s best not to lock these interior doors. Instead, lock only the main exterior doors. You won’t get locked out of the home, but if you do lock them, you might find yourself taking a joy ride back down the elevator… only to realize you locked the stairs, too!
No worries - you’ll never be truly locked out, just a little extra exercised.
★ Trash & Recycling
Trash pickup: Roll the can to the road the night before scheduled town pickup. You will receive a reminder message the night prior.
★ Showers & Bathrooms
Outdoor shower is available spring–fall only; it is winterized in the off-season.
★ Primary Bathroom Jet Tub:
Water must be above jets before turning on. Switch is next to the light switch (labeled).
Do not leave children unattended.
★Private Elevator
For your safety and convenience:
Elevator Phone is not operational — use a cell phone to call 911 in emergencies.
Both interior & exterior doors must be fully closed for elevator to operate.
Allow 3–4 seconds after pressing floor button for the elevator to move.
If lock doesn’t disengage, gently lift the small lever upward while opening.
Children are not allowed to ride alone.
Respect posted weight limits.
No playing, jumping, or roughhousing.
Doors on ground & second levels can be locked from the inside; the top-level entry opens directly into the home.

Waterfront Living: Nature, Wildlife & Things to Know:
One of the things that makes this home so special is that it sits right on the water. But waterfront living isn’t just a dream for humans, it’s home to a lot of local wildlife too. Seeing creatures around the property is completely normal here and is simply part of life on the Outer Banks.
You may see snakes, spiders, lizards, palmetto bugs, frogs, birds, and other coastal wildlife during your stay. We understand that your first instinct might be to panic or go into full survival mode, BUT the majority of these animals are completely harmless and want nothing to do with people.
Please do not kill any snakes or lizards. If you see a snake, 99.9% of the time it will simply mosey along if simply left alone. If it’s not budging it can generally be convince to carry on by being sprayed gently with a hose or a bucket of water. They are far more afraid of you than you are of them and will typically move along quickly.
If there is ever a creature that concerns you, please contact us right away and someone will come take care of it for you.
You may also notice large garden spiders or other spiders that build big, beautiful webs under the carport or around the exterior of the home. As scary as they may look, they are actually our best allies when it comes to controlling mosquitoes and other bugs. Unless a web is directly blocking an entry door or walkway, they can be left alone and they will likely return the favor by keeping the bugs under control.
A Quick Note About Spiders
Not every brown spider is a brown recluse. In fact, WE ARE HUNDREDS OF MILES OUTSIDE of the natural range of brown recluse spiders. That's not to say one didn't hitchhike here from the mountains. Unless you are digging through an old wood pile that hasn’t been touched in years, you are very unlikely to encounter any medically significant spiders here. Most spiders you will see are harmless and are extremely helpful in controlling mosquitoes and other insects.
Midges (Tiny Coastal Gnats)
At certain times of the year, especially near the water and around dusk, you may notice tiny insects called midges. They do not bite or sting, but they are attracted to lights and can be a little annoying.
A few tips that help a lot: Keep doors closed, especially in the evening
- Do not leave entryway lights on for long periods of time
- If sitting outside at night, turning off exterior lights helps significantly
- The closer to the water and the calmer the wind, the more you may notice them. A good breeze usually makes them disappear
- This is a normal part of coastal living certain times of the year.
Palmetto Bugs (Also Known as Water Bugs)
You may see what locals call palmetto bugs or water bugs. What we have here are wood roaches. They are very common in coastal, wooded, and waterfront areas like this.
They are different from German roaches, which are the small roaches that infest homes and create colonies. Wood roaches are typically solitary insects, they do not form indoor infestations, and they are not associated with filth or dirty homes.
They prefer to live outside in trees, mulch, and natural areas, but when we get heavy rain, big temperature changes, or very humid weather, they sometimes wander inside looking for warm, dry shelter.
They are harmless, but they do look like cockroaches on steroids and unfortunately, they do fly. Around here, we like to say they are the roommates nobody asked for. They are very common on the Outer Banks and seeing one does not mean the house is unclean, it just means you are staying near the water and nature.
If you see one and would like help, please let us know.
-
As much as we all dream of running barefoot through the yard, here on the Outer Banks that’s not always a luxury we can afford.
Sandspurs are common in coastal areas and are, quite honestly, tiny pieces of pure evil. They are shaped a bit like a fishhook, designed to go in easily but not come back out easily thanks to tiny barbs. Our landscapers do their best to stay on top of them, but they are very difficult to fully control in this environment.
There are also several types of native cacti that grow in the area, so please be aware and use caution when walking around the yard.
We strongly recommend wearing shoes outside and saving the barefoot galavanting for the beach.
But PLEASE take your shoes off before entering the home. The last thing you want are sandspurs in the carpet and on the couch!
-
Friendly Wildlife Rule
You are staying in their home just as much as they are visiting yours.
Snakes keep rodents away.
Spiders eat mosquitoes.
Lizards eat bugs.
Everyone has a job.
If you see something that makes you uncomfortable, please contact us and we will take care of it. Please do not spray, smash, trap, or otherwise try to handle wildlife yourself.
A good rule of thumb:
If it’s outside, it lives here.
If it’s inside, call us and we’ll handle it.

Our Eco-Friendly Home
We believe that caring for our guests also means caring for our environment. Throughout our home, you'll find products and practices chosen to create a cleaner, healthier space while minimizing our impact on the planet.
Our Cleaning Philosophy
We clean using simple, effective ingredients such as Castile soap, vinegar, baking soda, and other environmentally friendly products whenever possible. These products help create a fresh, clean home without the heavy fragrances or harsh chemicals found in many conventional cleaners.
Allergy-Friendly Living
Many of the products we provide—including our laundry detergent and cleaning supplies—are unscented or low-fragrance and allergy-friendly. We hope this makes your stay more comfortable, especially for guests with allergies or sensitivities.
Reducing Waste
We're committed to reducing single-use plastics and unnecessary waste whenever possible. You'll notice reusable containers, refillable dispensers, and other sustainable alternatives throughout the home. Every small step helps reduce our environmental footprint.
While Colington Harbour does not offer curbside recycling pickup, we'd still love your help keeping recyclable materials out of the landfill. In the kitchen, you'll find two trash cans—one for household trash and one for recyclables.
If you recycle during your stay:
Please rinse all recyclable containers before placing them in the recycling bin.
Tie the recycling bag securely when it's full.
Leave the tied recycling bag under the carport near the entrance when you check out, and we'll take it to a local recycling facility.
Our Mission
Protecting the beautiful Outer Banks and the natural environment we all enjoy is important to us. By choosing eco-friendly products and thoughtful practices, we hope to provide a comfortable, healthy home for our guests while helping preserve our coastal community for future generations.
Thank you for supporting our commitment to clean living and sustainable hospitality. We hope you enjoy your stay!
